THE ALMOST FINISHED ENGINE BAY. STARTING TO LOOK A LOT BETTER THAN IT DID AT
THE BEGINNING. NOTE THE BATTERY LOCATION TO THE LEFT OF THE ENGINE BAY. THIS IS
SUSPENDED FROM THE CHASSIS USING STAINLESS STEEL THREADED BAR FITTED TO A
HOME MADE STAINLESS STEEL BATTERY HOLDER BUT WAS MOVED FROM HERE TO THE REAR
WHEN NEW EXHAUST SYSTEM WAS FITTED IN 2001. |

THIS IS THE UNDER BONNET VIEW SHOWING THE FUEL TANK, HEATER FANS AND FUSE
BOX. THE HEATER FANS ARE FROM A FORD SIERRA AND FIT LIKE A GLOVE, THE
BENEFIT IS THAT YOU GET THREE SPEED FAN AND I MADE MY OWN HEATER BOX OUT OF
STAINLESS STEEL USING A SUZUKI JEEP HEATER MATRIX THAT LATER TURNED OUT TO WORK
VERY WELL ONCE TESTED WHEN MY COVIN WENT ON THE ROAD. |

IN GOES THE DASHBOARD FOR ANOTHER TEST FIT. NOTE THE ECU COMPUTER MODULE, THAT WILL BE
MOUNTED BEHIND THE DASH BOARD CLOSE TO WHERE THE GLOVE BOX WILL BE ALONG WITH
THE KE JETRONIC FUEL COMPUTER. |

HERE YOU CAN JUST SEE THE HEAD LINING, I MADE THIS MYSELF IN MY SITTING ROOM
USING A SINGER SEWING MACHINE . . . . EASY . . . WHY PAY PEOPLE TO DO WHAT YOU
CAN DO YOURSELF. NEXT I
STARTED SOUND PROOFING THE WHOLE INSIDE OF THE CAR GLUING ALL
THE SOUNDPROOFING INTO PLACE WITH SPRAY GLUE. |

THE CARPET WAS FITTED IN THE SAME WAY USING
SPRAY GLUE TO SECURE IT TO THE SOUNDPROOFING. |

I SAY ? THAT'S CHANGED THE LOOK A LITTLE.
FINALLY STARTING TO FIT THE REAR SEATS. THE INTERIOR WAS ALL COVIN AT THE
TIME OF BUILDING BUT THIS WAS ALL CHANGED IN 2001 TO PORSCHE 911 BLACK
LEATHER WHICH IS A BIG IMPROVEMENT IN BOTH LOOKS AND COMFORT AND WELL WORTH
THE EFFORT IT TAKES TO GET IT TO FIT WELL. |

IT'S TIME TO START ON THE DASHBOARD, CUT OUT AND DRILL ALL
HOLES THEN SAND AND CLEAN THE WHOLE THING DOWN TO MAKE A KEY FOR THE GLUE TO
STICK TO WHEN YOU PUT ON THE COVERING . . . . WHAT ? . . . YOUR NOT COVERING
YOURS YOURSELF ? . . . CHICKEN. . . .GO ON, GIVE IT A GO, THE WORST THAT CAN
HAPPEN IS THAT YOU'LL HAVE TO TAKE IT OFF AND PAY SOMEONE TO DO IT. I DID
MINE IN ONE SINGLE SHEET OF MATERIAL AND I MUST SAY IT WAS AN EVIL JOB TO DO BUT
IT LOOKED GREAT WHEN
I FINISHED. . .

NOW THAT THE ENGINE LID HAS BEEN PAINTED IT CAN BE FITTED IN PLACE.
i FOUND i HAD TO CUT OUT A LARGE DECTION OF THE ENGINE LID TO ALLOW FOR THE
FUEL INJECTION RAIL AND ROCKER COVER/CAM BELT COVER SO DON'T WORRY IF YOU
FIND THIS IS THE CASE WITH YOUR COVIN, SIMPLY MARK OUT THE INSIDE FLANGE OF
THE FIN ON YOUR ENGINE LID AND YOU'LL KNOW HOW FAR YOU CAN SAFELY CUT THE
LID OUT. |

HMMM . .LEAST SAID THE BETTER.... THE STANDARD REAR DRUM BRAKES
WILL WORK BUT NOT WELL ENOUGH FOR THE POWER OUTPUT OF THE RS TURBO ENGINE I'M RETAINING THE STANDARD BRAKES FOR
NOW BUT THEY ARE TOP OF THE LIST FOR CONVERSION TO DISKS ALL ROUND ONCE THE CAR
IS ON THE ROAD. SEE THE
TECHNICAL SECTION FOR THE WHEEL BOLT MODIFICATION. |

NOW THE REAR FIN IS FITTED, IT STILL REQUIRES THE RUBBER SEAL FITTING ROUND
THE BASE WHERE IT MEETS THE ENGINE LID. I USED THE STANDARD PORSCHE 911 TURBO
SEAL. IT'S STARTING TO LOOK MORE LIKE THE REAL THING EVERY
DAY NOW. |

THE DASHBOARD FITTED, I USED ALL PORSCHE 911
INSTRUMENTS & SWITCHES TO TRY AND KEEP IT LOOKING RIGHT. THERE'S A STORY TO
THIS THOUGH. . . WHILE ON HOLIDAY AT MY STATIC CARAVAN I WAS OVERCOME WITH THOUGHTS
OF NOT GETTING MORE WORK DONE TO MY COVIN, SO I SNEAKED AWAY WHILE CLAIRE
WENT SHOPPING AND TRAVELLED BACK HOME TO COLLECT THE DASHBOARD
AND ALL THE NECESSARY BITS I REQUIRED AND TOOK THEM BACK WITH ME TO THE
CARAVAN.... WHAT A GREAT IDEA I THOUGHT. MY PARTNER CLAIRE LATER FOUND OUT
WHAT I'D DONE AND WAS NOT QUIT AS IMPRESSED WITH THE IDEA AS I WAS AND HAD A
FEW WORDS TO SAY . . THE WEATHER WAS GOOD SO I DIDN'T MIND SLEEPING
OUTSIDE. ANYHOW THE DASHBOARD WAS COVERED AND READY TO BE FITTED TO
THE CAR ON ARRIVAL BACK HOME AND I WAS EVENTUALLY FORGIVEN AND GRANTED
ENTRY BACK IN THE CARAVAN, SO ALL WAS WELL. |
