Hi all,

After toiling with the idea of buying a kit/replica for a few years now I've stumbled across this site and I'm so impressed with some of the cars I've seen I've decided that Covin ownership is for me!!!

I've just finished rebuilding the engine in my old Alfa Romeo 156 TS and she's going up for sale in February so it's time for a new project!!

I want what probably everyone else wants which is an inexpensive decent base for a project.

I don't want to be too picky but I want a solid chassis/body. I don't really care about whether it has an engine/box, a faded paint or rough cosmetics as I intend to stick whatever I can find in the garage, strip it down, fit a nice interior, a fastish engine and a treat it to a really nice paint job.

I will consider absolutely anything and I can travel anywhere in the UK for the right car so if you have/know of/can find something for me I'd appreciate it???

Thanks for having me

Rikki

Welcome aboard Rikki :smt003

There's not many Covin's on the market at the moment but I'm sure that will change soon so keep an eye on the For sale section and also eBay.
The best advice I can give is to try to find a Covin that is correctly registered because this will save you the expense and chew on getting ISVA test. Engine changes are not straight forward with DVLA either because they're getting a bit funny with that now and ask for receipts and other evidence etc.
Nothing that can't be sorted out, but a correctly registered Covin will save you some hassle :smt012

That's great advice Darren thank you!

They are quite rare at the moment it seems, although for some reason that makes the idea of ownership even more attractive to me!!

I'd much prefer to buy a Covin than a boring old Porsche now!!

I'm not in a great rush to start so I'll take my time learning more about them and waiting for the right one to come along (at the right price of course).

With regards to engines etc what are my options? I've got an RS Turbo CVH engine here which is just gagging for a rebuild but would that restrict me as in which type of chassis I would need? The DVLA in my experience are an absolute bloody nightmare but obviously they're a neccessary evil.

Is there a certain website/magazine/auction that specialises in selling unfinished kit cars or is Ebay/here my only hope?

I'm actually going to try to get along to some meets in the coming year to see what I can find out about them as this is my first serious project and I don't want to be caught short.

:smt012 hi rikki welcome.
thats the best idea so far come and actualy see one of these cars and sit in one , and then decide iif they are for you, and ask all you need, dont forget a correctly registed car for less hassle and a 4cyl aircooled engine for better balance and drivabillity. not a load of power but you need to find a balance between the two. power and handling, unless you have pots of money and time :smt012
lookforward to see you at stoneleigh :smt012

Hiya Rikki - I own STK 100L - have a look at pics elsewhere on the website and let me know if you're interested. Not particularly desperate to sell, but would consider if offer was right.

Cheers,

Mark
