Kevin and Lesley Musson, aka, Newark Promotions are sad to report that Newark 2013 was the last in a long line of Newark Kit Car Shows.

For many reasons and only after long deliberation, we have come to the conclusion that it is no longer possible to sustain the show without unacceptable financial risk. As well as the unfavourable economic climate, in the last six years we have experienced and recorded the wettest, the coldest and the windiest events in all of the 31 years. We have had an unlucky run and there is no doubt that the climate in the UK has changed. This along with other factors has resulted in the decline in attendances. This has also occurred at a time when the costs for putting on such a show have increased dramatically.

Now what we gonna do? :smt005

My sincere thanks to both Sarah and Chris for spotting the closure notice on the Newark Show. Without doubt this was a fantastic show but the weather simply destroyed any chance of making a reasonable profit. For the last two years our video recording of the Newark show depicts empty stalls and large areas devoid of kit cars on display.

Thankful for the internet we were able to ascertained that the Exeter show is planning to move to the Malvern's, on the outskirts of Gloucestershire. Show dates are 25/26th October and this could be a venue for club members to vote upon at the forthcoming AGM at Stoneleigh. Detling is another show that we could also consider, but this show is held 13/14th April and is a month in which the weather can be very much hit and miss.

Needless to say both Darren and I will enter into discussion tomorrow to see what is the future and where else the club events can be staged. However, your initial thoughts on taking up the Malvern show in October would be most welcome.

I look forward to seeing you all at Stoneleigh, AGM is on the 4th May at 1300 hours. Lets hope for sunshine.

Regards from Michael Dykes :smt026

I am in favour of just trying to find a good campsite where we can park the cars next to our tents and have a Covin 'gathering'.

Although i do enjoy the shows i sometimes find myself spending more times talking to strangers about my car than i do talking to other Covin owners about mods they have made or tricks they have learned.

Many a time i have left a show having not found time to have a real good look at other Covins :smt017, or any of the other kit cars :smt013

Primarily i go to the shows to see the other Coviners and their cars.

I can't see me being in favour of the Malvern show, bad time of year and distance to far me thinks.

A gathering in July would be nice.
