Covin Owner Andy Devlin
This is Andy's second Covin as the
first one he owned was not up to the standards he wanted so he decided to sell
it on and add to his budget in order to buy a perfect example.
Andy bought this Covin fully built
and on the road but even though it was perfect in every way with very good
attention to detail, he had plans right from the start to upgrade brakes and
power output along with a few other touches with no expense spared.
He researched many brake options and
decided first to convert the front Type 3 callipers to BMW items that have
improved the braking 100% (see his Technical article).
His next step was to build himself a
tuned VW air-cooled 1776cc engine that was fitted in 2004. No sooner had the
engine been fitted he started collecting parts to build another tuned engine but
this time he's going all out on a fully tuned VW Type 1, 2.2ltr stroker
air-cooled engine that should produce around 160bhp.
Andy only lives about 40 miles away
from me so we often have Covin development weekends in my garage/workshop trying
out new ideas, modifications etc so who knows what we'll do next to his Covin. I
did suggest attempting to turbo charge his NEW engine once it's fitted, but he
wasn't to keen on the idea... Don't know why ? ? Where's your sense of adventure
