MY COVIN  BUILD

Covin Build Diary By Darren Parker Club Technical Advisor

This page contains information of My Own Covin build to help all members of the Covin Owners Club who are building or re-building their own Covin projects. From here you can see all the ups and downs of my Covin build including some of the early problems I had once it hit the road as well as the ongoing modifications I carry out to improve all aspects of the Covin driving experience.

For those of you still building their Covin, I hope you get some inspiration from this site so keep up the good work and you'll get there in the end.

My Covin as it looks today

Note: This section is extensive due to amount of pictures and may take time to load

It was about February 2000 that I became determined to own a covin. So I set out in search for one . . . and guess what ?   That's right, every one I went after had been sold, one was actually being sold at the time I  phoned. There was only one more left to try,  a part built covin  in Oxford, over 300 miles away from me here in the north east. I was desperate by this time so a phone call was made on Thursday 23rd march. The deal was done over the phone without me even seeing the covin. . . .  3 days later On Sunday 26th march 2000 and after a 600 mile round trip to Oxford and back I was the proud owner of a covin. Arriving back at my house I was greeted by my partner Claire (she's the WIFE now) who's first comments were . . .  "IT LOOKS A RIGHT WRECK, YOU MUST BE MAD"  .... Woman really do know when to say the right things don't they ? She was  probably right as that seems to be the average comment people made at the beginning. Then after some work was done and a little paint applied the comments changed to "BLOODY HELL YOU'VE GOT A 911".  Oh yes... Those poor unfortunate people with limited vision were only now seeing what was clear to me all the way through the build, covin kits are so convincing  I now find I have to explain to people that it is in fact a covin kit car and NOT a Porsche. Oh and while I remember my partner Claire now wants one herself . . . "WHOSE THE MAD ONE NOW THEN?" . . . . A few years later during 2004 she got her wish and I bought her a Covin which requires considerable work but should be ready to hit the road for the shows in 2005.

My wife Claire's Covin after considerable work but it still requires much more mechanical, electrical and interior work. Note the 993 front wings and lights.
CLAIRE'S COVIN PROJECT 2004
Strange but true. This Covin was actually the very first Covin I tried to buy back in 2000 but was actually being sold when I phoned to enquire about it. Who'd have thought 4 years on I'd end up buying it ? It's a funny old world.

My covin was on the road 27th April 2001 after 10 months working every spare hour of the day and  night, I literally lived in my garage. It's still getting pulled apart even now and changes are being made frequently so I will continue to add pictures of the progress I make as often as possible and any modifications or ideas I have will also be mentioned in the TECHNICAL SECTION section.

On September 22nd 2005 we decided to take on another project. This was a 1972 VW Bay Window Camper Van suffering from slight corrosion. Actually it's completely rotten and needs more welding than the Titanic.

With a little luck you should all see the finished Camper at next years shows (2006) along with our other new arrival "Fudge" the Springer Spaniel Puppy.

If you find yourself puzzled over the location of certain parts please contact me and I will try to send you a picture of the relevant part and where it is on my car. I know how you feel when you look at a part and think "where on earth do I put this" Remember you are not alone, the help and support is now at hand.
